Chris shares his birthday with both Derek Warwick and Gehard Berger, the Grand Prix drivers, all of us being born on 27th August 1954. Chris has achieved slightly less in the world of motor sport than either of these talented drivers! But he is still having loads of fun.
He started rallying in 1975 while living in Devon (those country lanes have never quite recovered) and continued until 1983. Most of the time was spent navigating on road and stage rallies with some very rapid drivers (and this from a man who can get lost with Sat Nav).
Various class wins were achieved over the years in a variety of cars ranging from Cooper S's to Escorts and Avengers.
1983 saw Chris become involved in speed events when he purchased a pre-74 Formula Ford called a Jomo. He subsequently owned chassis 1 and 6. First time out at Brands Hatch in January 1984 he won his class in the CCH sprint (more luck than judgement).
1988 saw Chris purchase the Clubmans car known as JASAG 3 (Spectrum), originally built by the well respected Jim Sword. This car carried Chris to numerous class wins including Valence Hill Climb in 1992.
Chris also embarked on his circuit racing career in the Spectrum with the odd class win in the SEMSEC single seater series.
Stupidly, he sold the car and regrets it to this very day, although Jackie isn't sure where he would park it if he still had it.
A stock hatch XR2 was purchased, and after fitting a pair of twin 40 Webers, he started entering the fledgling Track and Race Car series. Third in class at the Brands Grand Prix event was surprisingly achieved against much faster cars.
The current Fiesta XR2 was purchased almost on a whim (no surprises there then), and was being used up to the 2006 Dunlop Motorsport News/ BARC Sports and Saloons Race Series.
Sensibly, George Newton has prepared Chris's cars for a number of years, and has done an excellent job.
Professionally, Chris is a qualified Structural Engineer and Building Surveyor with over 30 years experience in the industry. He is available if required for independent consultancy work.
