NEED A STRUCTURAL ENGINEER OR A BUILDING SURVEYOR

Chris has been working in the construction industry since 1972, and has trained in the field of Civil and Structural Engineering.

After working initially on the 2nd Dartford Tunnel project, he undertook structured training with Rendel Palmer & Tritton (Consulting Engineers). Here he received training in marine engineering, ie the construction of harbours, port structures, jetties, single buoy mooring systems etc.  Work was carried out on the feasibility of the Thames Barrier Project.

A BSc degree course in Civil Engineering was undertaken at Plymouth Polytechnic followed by additional academic training at Greenwich University and Lewisham College, where a specialisation in Structural Engineering was chosen.  The Institute of Structural Engineers professional exams were taken in 1984 and passed.  Membership of the Association of Building Engineers was achieved, with associate membership of the Institute of Civil Engineers and Chartered Institute of Building also being attained.

Chris worked for the Civil Engineering department of British Rail in the late 1970s before working on the resident engineer's staff on the Thames Barrier Project, and the associated Riverbank raising projects.  Chris also trained as a Commercial Diver, initially starting diving in 1969.

From there, Chris's work experience devolved in the field of Building Control through the District Surveyor's service.  He rose to the rank of acting deputy head of Building Control for Lewisham Council, and then worked for a number of other Local Authorities on an agency basis.

Currently Chris works for an Approved Inspector whilst continuing to carry out some independent surveying and engineering consultancy work.  Chris continues to maintain an up to date knowledge of the Building Regulations etc.

He has worked on a number of large projects ranging from multi-storey tower blocks in Canary Wharf to normal domestic work.  Structural remedial works are one of his specialities.  He also spends some of his time providing training to other professionals.  Chris has recently served as a member of the strategic working party for the new NHBC Guide to Foundations for Low Rise Buildings, which was published in September 2009.

His knowledge base of building problems is extensive as one would expect from 30 years + in the industry and customers can be confident of dealing with a very knowledgeable professional.

Chris spends most of the year in the UK and the remainder of the time in Spain, so if you need more information, or would like a quote for a job, please get in touch by calling on 07980 279878 or by sending an e-mail to
